Ministry of Foreign Affairs Statement on Attempted Coup in Turkey

Kenya joins the international community and all democracies, standing in solidarity with the elected Government of the republic of turkey, in strongly condemning the failed coup attempt and the attendant inexplicable loss of life.

The arrogance of the putschists in abrogating the constitution and the rule of law, further affirms Kenya Government’s unwavering commitment in entrenching democracy at home, our region and around the world.

The will of the people, expressed through the ballot, can neither be subverted nor thwarted by the evil machinations of power hungry individuals.

I have been in constant touch with my colleague, the foreign minister of turkey, throughout this crisis and i have personally conveyed to him kenya government’s firm support and huge indignation at this futile effort in snuffing out democracy and replacing it with dictatorship and repression.

Ambassador. Dr. Amina Mohamed, EGH, CBS, CAV

Cabinet secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya
