DONATION FROM QATAR GOVERNMENT TO THE BLUE ECONOMY CONFERENCE

Principal Secretary Amb. Macharia Kamau today received a donation of Ksh. 50 million from the State Government of Qatar, towards the hosting of the High Level Conference on Blue Economy to be held on 26th to 28th November 2018, in Nairobi-Kenya.

The global conference is co-hosted by the Canadian Government and has attracted support from various countries and organizations across the world. Amb. Macharia, while acknowledging the donation from the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Kenya, expressed his gratitude to the Qatar Government for the donation, and the support received so far.The PS said preparations for the conference were complete and that, the anticipated budget for the hosting of the conference has already been achieved, with half of the funds donated so far by various Governments and organizations received.

The Ambassador of the state of Qatar to Kenya, HE. Amb. Jabor Bin Ali Al-dosari, while presenting the cheque on behalf of his Government, expressed satisfaction at the growing bilateral partnership between Kenya and Qatar, and confirmed Qatar’s participation at the high level conference in Nairobi.

The PS said, the importance of the conference is geared towards realizing the untapped potential found in our oceans, seas, lakes and rivers, and builds on the momentum of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDG) and the Paris Climate Agreement.

Amb. Macharia underscored the importance of the conference to Kenyans saying that, the country’s advantage to the sea remains untapped, due to over reliance on land economy, and urged Kenyans to take full advantage of the conference and learn about new opportunities which exists and remain unexploited within our seas, and create sustainable economic development for our country.
