President Lula da Silva of Brazil to Visit Kenya Today

The President of Brazil H.E Luis Inacio Lula da Silva will arrive in Kenya today 5th June, on a state visit. President da Silva is expected to arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 2200 hours local time.

On arrival, President da Silva will be received at the airport by H.E the Vice-President Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President da Silva is on a tour of five African countries, culminating in a visit to South Africa. Besides Kenya and South Africa, the tour will also take him to Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and Tanzania.    

 
KENYA AND RUSSIA TO FORGE CLOSER TIES

Kenya and the Russian Federation are set to forge closer bilateral ties in the near future. In a three-tier agreements that will be signed later this year by Hon. Moses Wetang’ula of Kenya and his Russian counterpart Hon. Sergei Lavrov, the two countries will commit themselves to closer cooperation in three main sectors.

On Friday 2 July, the Russian Ambassador to Kenya H.E Valery E. Egoshkin paid a courtesy call on Hon. Wetang’ula at his office with a special message on the relationship of Kenya and Russia. He informed the minister that his counterpart, Hon. Lavrov will make an official visit to Kenya in mid-November as part of the process of promoting and strengthening the relations of the two countries.

Hon. Lavrov’s visit will be a turning point for Kenya and Russia, with a diplomatic history dating back to Kenya’s independence.  During the visit, three Agreements will be signed on Tourism, Museum Services and Technical Cooperation on the Russian Diplomatic Academy with Kenya’s Foreign Service Institute.

FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER BIDS FAREWELL TO OUTGOING DANISH AMBASSADOR

Hon. Moses Wetangula today 30th June 2010 bid farewell to the outgoing Danish ambassador to Kenya Mr. Bo Jensen in a luncheon in his honor.

During the ceremony, the minister appreciated the close and fruitful cooperation that the two countries have enjoyed. He also thanked the government of Denmark for designating Kenya among the few other countries as Danish programme countries to which bilateral assistance is concentrated.

The Minister acknowledged the continued operation of Danish Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) which have contributed enormously to the country’s economic development projects

On his part, the outgoing ambassador said that he enjoyed working in Kenya and would continue being Kenya’s ambassador especially in marketing it as a tourist attraction. Mr. Jensen has been the Danish ambassador to Kenya since September 2005 and is taking up his new assignment at UNDP, Oslo.

Also present at the ceremony was Ag. Director for Political Affairs, Amb. Patrick Wamoto, Dr. Joe Sang Director Europe and Commonwealth division, Amb. S.K Maina, Director IOC and the Ambassador designate to the office of Great Lakes Region in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kenya.
 
PS Thuita Mwangi Hosts ACABQ Members

PS Mr. Thuita Mwangi welcomes members of ACABQ to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ) of the United Nations has paid a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Mr. Thuita Mwangi. The delegation made the visit on June 30 and was led by ACABQ Chair Ms.  Susan McLurg, and her deputy Collen Kalapile.

ACABQ is a subsidiary organ of the United Nations General Assembly, consisting of 16 members appointed by the Assembly in their individual capacity. It is the Committee’s responsibility to examine and report on the budget submitted by the Secretary General. The Committee also examines the administrative budgets of the UN specialized agencies and proposals for financial arrangements.
