Richard Onyonka has welcomed the decision by the Government of the Republic of Congo to open a diplomatic mission in Kenya. The assistant minister said that the embassy will help to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries. He noted that there are many potential areas of cooperation and said that the two countries should now explore the possibility of initiating a Joint Commission of Cooperation that would form a platform of an effective framework for cooperation. The minister was speaking when he met with Mr. Jem Ayoulove, the Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Congo, who paid him a courtesy call in his office yesterday.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Jem Ayoulove, who is in the country to fast track the opening of the mission, said that Kenya presents many opportunities for his country. He singled out Kenya’s excellent health facilities which offered specialized medical services in the region. He underscored the need for African countries to strengthen cooperation at the regional level in the larger framework of South to South Cooperation. Mr. Ayoulove also delivered a special message from the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Congo to his Kenyan counterpart, Hon. Moses Wetang’ula. He also met with Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Mr. Thuita Mwangi. |
