The two week training programme on Bilateral and Multilateral diplomacy organized by the Foreign Service institute in partnership with the Diplo Foundation was officially closed yesterday with a colourful graduation ceremony held at a Nairobi Hotel.

The programme which opened on 15th March was conducted by Amb. Prof Emeritus Kishan Rana.  Amb. Rana is a renowned diplomat and senior fellow at the Diplo Foundation in Malta and Geneva.

38 officials from the ministry successfully completed the programme and were awarded with certificates at the closing ceremony. The programme focused on the challenges facing the 21st century diplomat in the context of modern diplomatic practice.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Amb.  Ben Ogutu, the Director for Political Affairs congratulated the officers for their accomplishment.

Amb. Ogutu underscored the importance of continuous training and said that traditional diplomacy was no longer tenable in a world in constant flux. He said that the 21st century diplomat should therefore be equipped with skills to contend with the challenges of the modern world.

He thanked Amb. Rana for accepting the invitation of the Foreign Service Institute to conduct the training in Kenya and said the Institute would continue to collaborate with the Diplo Foundation on other courses relevant to Kenya’s foreign service officers.
