Advanced University Degree or Ph. D in Economics or Agricultural Economics
Seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in economic and econometric analysis of food and agricultural development issues and policies
Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of French or Spanish
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Head, Global Perspective Studies Unit (ESAG) will carry out policy analysis work mainly in relation to global long-term issues in food, nutrition and agriculture. Specifically the incumbent will:
participate in preparatory work for the FAO study World agriculture: towards 2030/2050, including work related to the development of a new quantitative framework for scenario analysis;
organize and carry out economic and econometric analysis of technical and policy issues of a global perspective nature, including the development and application of related analytical tools;
analyze topics in natural resource economics including issues of an agro-ecological nature
organize and monitor contributions of technical FAO Divisions often of a multidisciplinary nature;
prepare analytical reports on topics dealt with by the Unit;
participate in the preparation of other FAO, UN and non-UN reports of a global perspective nature to which the Unit has to contribute;
monitor and evaluate non-FAO long-term studies in the field of food, nutrition and agriculture, including the analytical tools used in the preparation of such studies;
perform other related duties as required.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
Relevance of experience in economic research and quantitative and policy analysis of global food and agriculture development issues
Ability to formulate research questions and identify and apply the appropriate analytical tools
Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision
Ability to draft reports and articles for publication and to make effective presentations
Extent of knowledge of economic and policy aspects of global agriculture, food and nutrition issues
Extent of experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams
Extent of knowledge of agronomic aspects of agriculture
