December 5, 2016 — Amb. Amina Mohamed represented President Uhuru Kenyatta during the 3rd International Forum on Peace and Security hosted by H.E Macky Sall, President of Senegal. Kenya has been at the forefront in fostering peace and stability in Africa. The forum was an opportunity to take stock of the milestones achieved in silencing the guns and building resilient, conflict-free States and communities in Africa. It is aligned to Kenya’s priority during its tenure as a co-chair to the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission, to focus on prevention of conflicts.
Amb. Amina later had a bilateral meeting with President Macky Sall and reaffirmed the cordial relations between Kenya and Senegal. They both agreed on the importance of electing a Chairperson of the African Union Commission in the January 2017 Summit in Addis Ababa that is committed to African ideals. The position was not filled during the Kigali Summit in July, 2016 following lack of consensus among African leaders. The Chairperson is a critical component of the leadership necessary to continue the successful implementation of Agenda 2063.
