Advancing Kenya’s Global Leadership in Public Audit

Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu last evening hosted a reception in Nairobi to celebrate Kenya’s successful appointment as External Auditor of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) for the 2026–2027 term, and to galvanize support for the country’s candidature to the United Nations Board of Auditors (UNBoA) for the 2028–2034 term.

In her remarks, the Auditor-General described the CTBTO appointment as a significant national achievement, noting that the success was made possible through strong institutional collaboration and a whole-of-government approach. She acknowledged the critical role played by the State Department for Foreign Affairs, Kenya’s diplomatic missions and other Government institutions in advancing the candidature, underscoring that international bids are not merely institutional pursuits but national undertakings that combine professional competence with sustained diplomatic engagement.

Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Korir Sing’Oei, who was the  Guest of Honour, congratulated the Auditor-General and her team, noting that the achievement reflects both the professional capability of the Office of the Auditor-General and Kenya’s growing stature and credibility in the international community. He highlighted the important role of diplomacy in advancing Kenya’s international candidatures and positioning the country for leadership in global institutions.

Dr. Sing’Oei reaffirmed the State Department for Foreign Affairs’ support for Kenya’s candidature to the UN Board of Auditors for the 2028-2034 term, pledging continued diplomatic engagement and coordination with Kenya’s missions abroad to advance the bid.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to working collaboratively to strengthen Kenya’s international profile and secure greater representation and leadership within multilateral institutions.
