Foreign Service Academy and HORN Institute Strengthen Cooperation in Diplomatic Training and Research
The Kenya Foreign Service Academy (FSA) and the HORN International Institute for Strategic Studies have strengthened cooperation in diplomatic training, research and capacity building through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Upper Hill Chambers, Nairobi.
The MoU, signed under the leadership of Ambassador Patrick Wamoto, establishes a framework for collaboration in education, training and research aimed at enhancing the professional capabilities of foreign service officers and strengthening Kenya’s capacity to effectively articulate and advance its national interests in the global arena.
The partnership will promote modern and innovative approaches to training in foreign policy, international relations, diplomatic studies, communication and cultural studies. It will also facilitate knowledge exchange, joint research and capacity-building initiatives to support evidence-based policymaking and strengthen diplomatic practice.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Hassan Khannenje, Director of the HORN International Institute for Strategic Studies, reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to bridging the gap between academic research and diplomatic practice. He noted that the partnership would strengthen the capacity of Kenya’s foreign policy community to anticipate and respond effectively to emerging geopolitical, economic and security challenges.
Representing the Principal Secretary, State Department for Foreign Affairs, Deputy Director General, Political and Strategic Partnerships, Mr. Ibrahim Mustafa, welcomed the partnership, noting that the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs places strong emphasis on continuous professional development and capacity building of its officers through strategic partnerships with relevant academic and research institutions.
The two institutions expressed confidence that the collaboration will contribute to a more professional, knowledge-driven and responsive Kenyan Foreign Service, while strengthening Kenya’s diplomatic capacity to advance its national interests in an increasingly complex international environment.
