Kenya and Armenia Hold Inaugural Political Consultations
The Republic of Kenya and the Republic of Armenia have formalized a new framework for bilateral engagement following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a mechanism for Political Consultations between the two countries.
The Agreement was signed by Amb. Josphat Maikara, EBS, Director General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs of Kenya, and H.E. Vahan Kostanyan, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Armenia. The MoU establishes a structured framework for regular consultations on bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
The inaugural consultations were co-chaired by Amb. Josphat Maikara, and Mr. Levon Petrosyan, Head of Africa and Middle East Affairs at Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and attended by Ms. Judy Njau, Deputy Director General (Europe and Commonwealth Directorate), Amb. Sahak Sargsyan, and other officials from both Ministries.
Both sides underscored the importance of deepening cooperation to deliver tangible benefits from the 33 years of diplomatic relations.
In this regard, the consultations identified priority areas for expanded collaboration, including mining, energy, ICT, tourism, education, healthcare, manufacturing particularly agro-processing smart agriculture, creative technologies, and innovation. The two countries also explored opportunities for institutional partnership between Kenya’s Foreign Service Academy (FSA) and the Diplomatic School of Armenia to strengthen diplomatic training, capacity building, and knowledge exchange. The private sector was recognized as central to expanding trade and investment and unlo cking the full potential of bilateral economic engagement.
The engagements reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation across priority sectors.
