Kenya and League of Arab States Reaffirm Commitment to Enhanced Diplomatic Cooperation
Amb. Lindsay Kiptiness, Deputy Director-General, today held a courtesy meeting with H.E. Dr. Khaliid Mohammed Ali Al Kathiri, Head of Mission of the League of Arab States in Nairobi. The meeting underscored the cordial and longstanding relations between Kenya and the League of Arab States, particularly in advancing political, economic, cultural, and social cooperation.
Discussions highlighted the League’s continued engagement with Kenya’s State Department for Foreign Affairs and commended its support for capacity-building initiatives targeting young Kenyan diplomats. Notably, both sides acknowledged the success of the Seminar on Diplomacy in the Middle East held in October 2025.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustained and structured cooperation in diplomatic training and knowledge exchange. The League of Arab States expressed its readiness to expand future training programmes in key areas including trade negotiations, peace mediation, and climate diplomacy.
Amb. Kiptiness briefed the Head of Mission on the adverse impacts of climate change on the environment and communities in Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), and called for humanitarian support from partners, including the League of Arab States.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on political developments in the Middle East, notably progress in the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire, ongoing United States–Iran engagements, and the situation in Yemen.
