Kenya Azerbaijan Relations

The Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, hosts H.E. Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, for bilateral talks aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries. 

During the discussions, Dr. Mudavadi expressed Kenya's aspiration to host the Secretariat of the Global Plastics Treaty at the UNEP headquarters in Gigiri. The two leaders also discussed their shared priorities, amongst these, agriculture, environmental stewardship, global governance, and peace and security. Earlier Minister Bayramov met with President William Ruto at State House where he extended an invitation for a State Visit to Baku. 

While in Kenya, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov officially inaugurated the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Nairobi, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the countries in 2004. Amb. Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Jonah M. Mwangi is the Ambassador-designate of Kenya's Mission in Tehran, which is accredited to Azerbaijan while, H.E. Sultan Aghami Oglu Hajiyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, serves as the chief of the Azerbaijan Embassy in Nairobi, which has been operational since June 7, 2023. The Mission is also accredited to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
