Kenya, Slovenia Advance Political Consultations and Economic Diplomacy

Kenya and Slovenia are advancing preparations for their inaugural political consultations while exploring new opportunities to expand trade, investment and cooperation across key sectors.

The discussions took place when Amb. Josphat Maikara, Director General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs, received H.E. Kristina Radej, Slovenia’s Non-Resident Ambassador to Kenya, for a courtesy call at the Ministry Headquarters.

The engagement built on the momentum of President Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar’s State Visit to Kenya in May–June 2025, during which Kenya and Slovenia signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a framework for structured political consultations.

Amb. Maikara and Ambassador Radej discussed preparations for the inaugural consultations, which will provide a platform for sustained diplomatic dialogue and advancing shared priorities between Nairobi and Ljubljana.

Economic diplomacy featured prominently, with the two sides exploring opportunities to expand bilateral trade and investment. Particular attention was given to enhancing market access for Kenyan value-added agricultural products and encouraging greater Slovenian investment in Kenya.

The discussions also covered opportunities to deepen cooperation in digital transformation and innovation, climate action, agriculture and apiculture, education and research, health, and labour mobility.

Amb. Maikara appreciated Slovenia’s support for initiatives including the Aqua Twin satellite-driven river basin management project and the Joint Health Care Assistance project, and welcomed continued cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The engagement underscored the shared commitment to translating high-level political engagements into practical cooperation, with political consultations and economic diplomacy providing important avenues for strengthening Kenya–Slovenia relations.

As the two countries prepare for their inaugural political consultations, the engagement sets the stage for advancing a broader bilateral agenda anchored in trade and investment, innovation, sustainable development and stronger institutional ties.
