Kenya–Zimbabwe Ties Strengthened Following Successful Mid-Term Review of the 4th JPCC in Nairobi

Kenya and Zimbabwe have successfully concluded the Mid-Term Review (MTR) of the 4th Session of the Kenya-Zimbabwe Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation (JPCC), held in Nairobi from 2–4 February 2026, underscoring the depth and steady growth of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The MTR was co-chaired by Dr. A. Korir Sing’Oei, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, and Ambassador Albert R. Chimbindi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

In their opening remarks, the Heads of Delegation reaffirmed the strong political goodwill, shared values and historic bonds that anchor Kenya–Zimbabwe relations, and emphasized the role of diplomacy in advancing development and shared socio-economic aspirations.

The Heads of Delegation noted that cooperation has been further reinforced through sustained high-level engagements, including reciprocal visits and close collaboration at both regional and multilateral levels. They further highlighted that the decision to elevate the JPCC into a Bi-National Commission at Heads of State level reflects a mutual commitment to deepen cooperation in a more strategic, impactful and results-oriented manner-while ensuring that signed instruments translate into tangible benefits for the peoples of both nations.

The Mid-Term Review brought together senior officials and technical representatives from relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) from both countries, who undertook structured engagements under thematic clusters covering foreign affairs, administration and governance, economic and trade cooperation, and social and cultural affairs.

Discussions reviewed progress made since the 4th JPCC Session, acknowledged gains arising from strengthened institutional linkages, and identified implementation gaps requiring renewed momentum, enhanced coordination and more effective monitoring mechanisms.

At the conclusion of the MTR, both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to fast-track implementation of all agreed decisions, finalize pending instruments within the stipulated timelines, and convene outstanding Joint Technical Committee meetings ahead of the inaugural Bi-National Commission, scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.

The MTR was recognized as a pivotal milestone in sustaining momentum and ensuring that Kenya-Zimbabwe cooperation delivers concrete and measurable socio-economic outcomes for the peoples of both countries.
