Kenyans arrive in Saudi for Hajj

The first batch of 500 Kenyan pilgrims have arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj(pilgrimage) 2025. They were received at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah by the Kenyan Consul General, Amb. Aden Mohamud Mohamed and his Deputy, Adan Abarufa Jarso and Officials from the Supreme Council of Kenya. The pilgrims are among 4,500 Kenyans expected in Saudia for the annual Hajj. 

Another group of Kenyan pilgrims are expected to arrive through Madinah International Airport, enroute to Makkah to begin their spiritual journey.

The recently established Consulate General in Jeddah is expected to play a central role in coordinating and facilitating preparations for the pilgrimage. 

Hajj 2025 is expected to commence on the evening of Wednesday, June 4, 2025, and conclude on the evening of Monday, June 9, 2025.  These dates correspond to the 8th through the 13th of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic lunar calendar. However, the exact dates are subject to the official moon sighting in Saudi Arabia, which determines the start of Dhul Hijjah. 

Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam which draws millions of Muslims from around the world annually to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah. It is the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca (Makkah) in Saudi Arabia, and it is a mandatory religious duty for all adult Muslims who are physically and financially able to undertake the journey at least once in their lifetime.

Interesting facts on key Ritual Dates for Hajj 2025: 

  • 8th Dhul Hijjah (June 4): Known as the Day of Tarwiyah, pilgrims proceed to Mina to begin their Hajj rituals;

  • 9th Dhul Hijjah (June 5): The Day of Arafah, considered the pinnacle of Hajj, where pilgrims gather at Mount Arafah for supplication; 

  • 10th Dhul Hijjah (June 6): Eid al-Adha, marked by the stoning of the Jamarat, animal sacrifice, and Tawaf al-Ifadah in Makkah; 

  • 11th–13th Dhul Hijjah (June 7–9): Continued stoning rituals at the Jamarat in Mina; the 13th is optional for those who choose to stay an extra day.
