PCS Meets with UNICEF Deputy Executive Director

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Musalia Mudavadi, met with Mr. Omar Abdi, Deputy Executive Director for Programmes at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), who is in Kenya on an official visit.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in promoting and protecting children’s rights, as well as addressing humanitarian challenges, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions of the country.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary noted that UNICEF maintains the second-largest operational footprint in Nairobi, reinforcing the city’s position as a leading multilateral hub. He welcomed the planned relocation of key UNICEF offices and approximately 250 staff to Nairobi, which is expected to enhance engagement in national priority areas including health, nutrition, education, water and sanitation.

Both sides agreed on the importance of continued UNICEF support in capacity building and the provision of technical assistance to national institutions, particularly in the ongoing transition of the education system aimed at strengthening foundational learning outcomes.

The meeting underscored Kenya’s commitment to sustained partnership with UNICEF in advancing the wellbeing and development of children across the country.
