PCS Mudavadi holds bilateral talks on the sidelines of FOCAC Ministerial Summit in China
Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi has held a series of high-level bilateral engagements aimed at deepening Kenya’s strategic partnerships.
The discussions underscore Kenya’s proactive diplomacy under the #DiplomacyInActionKe initiative and reinforce the country’s commitment to fostering meaningful international partnerships that deliver tangible benefits for the Kenyan people.
In a key meeting held on the sidelines of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Ministerial Summit, with H.E. Wang Yi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, the two leaders reaffirmed the strong and evolving relationship between the two countries. Dr. Mudavadi emphasized that the upgraded bilateral ties are a reflection of both countries’ enduring commitment to mutual respect, cooperation and, shared prosperity, an approach he noted could serve as a model for other African nations.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary expressed Kenya’s sincere appreciation for China’s continued support, particularly in the areas of financial assistance and trade cooperation. He reiterated Kenya’s steadfast support for the One-China Policy, noting that it is now formally entrenched within Kenya’s foreign policy framework through a Sessional Paper passed by Parliament.
Earlier in the day, H.E. Dr. Mudavadi held strategic discussions with executives from SANY Silicon Energy, a global leader in the manufacture of solar panels and renewable energy technologies. The talks focused on exploring investment opportunities in Kenya, positioning the country as a gateway into the broader Eastern and Central African region.
Central to the discussions was the prospects of establishing a solar manufacturing facility in Kenya. The Prime Cabinet Secretary reiterated the country’s commitment to sustainable development, highlighting the role of strategic partnerships in expanding access to affordable, clean energy. He noted that SANY’s advanced green technologies offer a timely solution to Africa’s energy challenges and hold great potential for accelerating the continent’s transition to renewable energy.
In a separate bilateral meeting, Dr. Mudavadi engaged with H.E. Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Also present were Kenya’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Amb. Willy Bett; Somalia’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Amb. Hodan Osman Abdi; Director of Asian Affairs at Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Amb. Jane Makori, and Mr. Said Jama Mire, Director-General for Asian Affairs at Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, the two leaders committed to expediting the convening of Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meetings with the aim of finalizing key Memoranda of Understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Minister Ali conveyed Somalia’s appreciation for Kenya’s long-standing support in advancing peace and stability in the region, particularly through the deployment of Kenyan forces under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia over the past 25 years.
Dr. Mudavadi reaffirmed Kenya’s dedication to regional solidarity and good neighbourliness, emphasizing that strong diplomatic and security partnerships are essential to shared progress and development.
