Statement by Amb. (Dr.) Amina C. Mohamed During The Launch Of The 10th WTO Ministerial Conference branding

Your Excellency, President Uhuru Kenyatta,

Cabinet Secretaries,

Principal Secretaries,

Chief Executives of Various Business, Organizations/Institutions,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a great honour for me and the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade to participate in the launching of the 10th World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference (MC10) Logo as well as the website for the Conference.

As a country, we took a lot of pride when the WTO General Council pronounced Kenya as the host of the 10th World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference following concerted lobbying by the Government.

I wish to thank your Excellency for your personal efforts and engagements which ensured that Kenya was selected as the first African country to host the WTO Ministerial Conference. I also thank your Excellency for finding time to preside over this occasion.

Your Excellency,

The hosting of the Ministerial Conference in Kenya is not only Kenya’s pride, but the pride of the entire continent of Africa. The decision to hold the Conference in Africa for the first time in 20 years is a welcome development and a clear demonstration of the commitment of the international community to integrate Africa into the multilateral trading system.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade is committed to ensuring that all preparatory and related logistical measures for the Conference are put in place. In this respect, we have formed a strong and all-inclusive stakeholder National Preparatory Committee that is working round the clock to ensure the Conference in Nairobi will be a resounding success.

I am pleased to inform your Excellency that present here are Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries as well as representatives of various Institutions/Organizations that have played a key role as Members of the National Preparatory Committee for the Ministerial Conference. They participated in the preparation of Kenya’s bid for the Conference and are currently engaged in the preparations for hosting the meeting. I express my sincere gratitude to you all for your continued dedication to the success of the Conference.

It is now my humble responsibility to invite your Excellency the President to address the gathering and thereafter officially launch the 10th WTO Ministerial Conference Logo as well as the Website.

Welcome Your Excellency.
