Cabinet Secretary Amb Monica Juma is in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for a 3-days official visit to represent President Uhuru Kenyatta in the “Aqaba Process Follow-up meeting on East Africa” on invitation by His Majesty King Abdullah II, Ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashmite Kingdom of Jordan on 8-9 December 2018.

The meeting which brings regional stakeholders and international partners together will reflect on progress since the first meeting and address regional and global peace and security issues.

On arrival in Amman, Jordan CS Juma held a bilateral meeting with her Jordanian counterpart H.E Ayman Safadi and discussed ways of further strengthening the solid bilateral relations between the two countries. They reaffirmed commitment to continue working together for the mutual benefit of both countries.

The two foreign ministers agreed that the visit provides an opportunity for constructive conversation to enhance levels of cooperation based on the solid track record of cooperation particularly in the area of regional and global peace and security. In this regard, they agreed to urgently put together a multi-sectoral team of experts from both countries to expeditiously finalize the proposed Special Status Agreement (SSA) noting that that the SSA will elevate the Kenya-Jordan relationship to a strategic level and provide the foundation for follow up technical levels discussions in other areas as education, tourism, trade, labour, security, health and agriculture.

The meeting was a follow up on discussions between the two ministers on the sidelines of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York in September 2018.
